There are moments no family should have to face alone.
For more than 38 years, The Family Co. has walked alongside women, children and families across the Sutherland Shire, St George and Bayside, offering support through domestic and family violence services, family and parenting programs, child and youth services and Aboriginal programs.
Their work often begins in some of the hardest moments of a family’s life. But this End of Financial Year, their appeal is focusing on something just as important.
The day after.
The Day After appeal is about what happens once support arrives. It is the first safe night’s sleep. A child settling into a warm bed. A mum taking a breath. A family beginning to feel, perhaps for the first time in a long time, that things might be okay.
It is the practical care that helps families stabilise, and the ongoing support behind the scenes that helps them move from surviving to thriving.
In the 2024 to 2025 financial year, The Family Co. supported 13,675 individuals across Southern Sydney. Through the Southern Sydney Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service, covering the St George and Sutherland Police Area Commands, they made 4,993 referrals. They also supported 1,105 women in the Safe Room at Sutherland Court.
These numbers are significant, but behind each one is a person. A family. A child. A local story.
The Family Co. also opened a second location in Hurstville last year, extending their reach across the region. From 1 July, they will deliver the new Families Together Program across South Eastern Sydney, continuing their work with families who need connection, guidance and practical support.

Their team has also been recognised as finalists in both the 2026 Local Business Awards and the Southern Sydney Business Awards, with winners to be announced soon.
But the real measure of their work is in the families who feel safer, stronger and more supported because someone was there when they needed help.
Everything The Family Co. does comes back to one simple belief, that every child and family deserves a safe home, strong connections and the opportunity to thrive.
This EOFY, local families need the community behind them. Every tax-deductible donation to The Day After appeal helps fund the practical care families need, as well as the support services that help them rebuild.
If you are able to give, donations can be made before 30 June at www.thefamilyco.org.au/the-day-after.
And if donating is not possible right now, sharing the appeal with your own network can still make a meaningful difference.
