What to expect:
First you'll chat with Stacy about your pregnancy and birth details, general health, breastfeeding history and breastfeeding goals. After this Stacy will do an assessment of your breasts, your baby, and a breastfeed. As the feed begins and then progresses, the discussion will include:
- Optimum positioning and attachment
- Breast changes throughout the feed
- What to look for in your baby’s sucking behaviour
- When/if to change sides
- How to know if your baby has had enough
- What constitutes a successful feed
- What to look for after the feed - how often should the baby wee and poo? How/where/how long should your baby sleep?
Adjustments or modifications will be made throughout the feed as needed. Once the feed is finished, you'll have a chat, put a plan of management in place and talk about immediate goals. The consultation includes a week of follow ups, either by phone calls, message or email.
