ANZAC Day is fast approaching! Thankfully, it’s shaping up to look vastly different to last year. That said, there are still some services that won’t be going ahead due to COVID concerns and restrictions, so we thought we’d help you out by compiling a list of ways and places that you can commemorate ANZAC Day in the Sutherland Shire for 2021.
Whether you want to watch a service near you, from home, or head out to play 2-up, all the local info you need is right here.

Other ways to commemorate ANZAC Day
We’re thrilled to see local services recommencing this year, but with some having a very limited capacity, you may choose to honour the ANZACs from your home instead. Here are a few ways you can commemorate the occasion without leaving home, which may be preferable for those of you with babies and young children.
Light up the Dawn
When all ANZAC Day services were cancelled last year, Australians showed up to honour the ANZACs by standing at the bottom of their driveways (or on their unit balconies) holding lit candles to ‘light up the dawn’.
You can do the same again this year on the 25th of April at 6am and may like to consider broadcasting a live radio service or a recording of the Last Post for yourself and your neighbours to listen to as you stand outside your homes too. You can pledge to take part in lighting up the dawn here.
Watch the Official Live Broadcast
From 4:30am, ABC will be live streaming the broadcast of the Sydney Dawn Service, National Commemorative Service and Shrine of Remembrance Service. You can access it via Youtube or the ABC news channel on your TV.
You can view the Sydney ANZAC Day March on ABC TV and iview, the ABC Sydney Facebook page or ABC website.
For details on coverage of other services and marches across Australia visit the ABC website.
The best places to play 2-up in the Shire
COVID restrictions are still trying to kill our vibes, but a few places in the Sutherland Shire this year are still hosting 2-up for ANZAC Day and we’d hate for you to miss out! Here are the places where you can find a local 2-up ring.
Booking a table at all venues is strongly recommended!
