First, though, we want to put your mind at ease by debunking some myths commonly associated with frozen food.
Frozen-meal fears are a thing of the past
There’s often this assumption that if food is frozen, it’s less healthy than food that’s served fresh.
In fact, quite the opposite is true.
Fresh is not always best
A comprehensive two-year study published in 2017 analysed the nutritional value of frozen foods compared to fresh and refrigerated foods. The study found that while storing fresh produce in the fridge can cause vitamins to seep out of the food, the freezing process locks all that goodness in!
If you’re trying to shop only once or twice a week, your fresh food has often been losing vitamins for days. First, as it sat in the supermarket and then as it waited in your fridge for you to find the inspiration to make it into a meal.
So it turns out that because frozen meals have not been exposed to unwanted light, air and temperatures, their nutritional value can often be greater than that of produce stored fresh.
Protecting our children from preservatives
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has examined the effects of hundreds of different food additives and overwhelmingly found that where these are harmful, they do even greater harm to our children’s smaller bodies.
Certain chemicals, which are regularly added to foods we eat every day, have been linked to a scary number of health problems including interfering with puberty, poor brain development, heightened risk of heart disease, obesity and ADHD symptoms, fertility complications, thyroid problems, increased cancer risks and issues with the immune and nervous systems.
Unlike ready-to-consume refrigerated or packet meals, Go! Kidz meals don’t use any artificial preservatives or additives to keep food fresh and delicious, so you don’t have to worry about exposing your children to any potentially harmful chemicals that other ready-made meals contain. Go! Kidz doesn’t use anything artificial, including colourings, in their delicious range of meals. Ingredients are all-natural and all-Australian. Nothing is processed.
One of the AAP’s top recommendations is that we avoid processed foods and opt to serve our children food that has been frozen fresh.
And while your mind may be wandering back to a time when you’ve been served limp veges that took on too much water in the freezing process, we’ve got great news on that front too!
Say goodbye to soggy
Getting kids to eat what’s put in front of them every night is hard enough without having to try to convince them to chow-down on something unsightly.
This is where snap-freezing comes in.
Snap-freezing rapidly removes cold air (that would normally be trapped inside food packaging) at high velocity across foods in order to freeze them as quickly as possible.
This process prevents ice crystals from forming within the food, meaning that when thawed, there won’t be unwanted additional water content making food watery, soggy or flat.
The speedy process also prevents damage to the food’s texture and taste, which would otherwise occur with normal, slower freezing, so you can serve your family up a preservative-free, all-natural meal that looks as good as it tastes.
