Sutherland Shire businesswoman and social media influencer Amy Campbell and her husband Scott are expecting a baby in October after a five-year fertility struggle.
The couple who have shared the highs and lows of their five-year IVF journey with Amy’s 18,000 Instagram followers, are on cloud nine at the news they are pregnant with a baby girl.
“In sharing my story and being open about what we have been through, I have had so much positive feedback from others who have found comfort in our story.” Said Amy who has been through six cycles of IVF, eight egg transfers and two pregnancies – one ectopic and one miscarriage – plus major endometriosis surgeries, before finally receiving the good news about her rainbow baby.
She continued: “In some ways it doesn’t seem real, we’ve spent so much time focussing on getting pregnant and now we finally are, I feel so incredibly lucky.”
As owner of The Bridal Bar, a luxury beauty salon in Caringbah, Amy said she often doubles as a therapist of sorts. “So many women suffer in silence without anyone knowing what they are going through. I might see someone for a tanning or make-up appointment, and because I have been very vocal about my personal experiences with IVF, they feel they have someone to relate to and open up to. I want women to know that they are not alone and give them some hope when the going gets tough.”
Now that Amy is well into her second trimester, she has a whole new bunch of non-glamorous issues to deal with. “Social media can be a wonderful tool, there are so many helpful online communities that got me through the whole IVF experience. And, now that I am expecting, it was only yesterday, I was asking the Mums of the Shire Facebook community for remedies to tackle my excruciating heartburn!”
Amy said that she is happy to be a sounding board for local women like her who are experiencing infertility. She said: “I really want to help others who might be on a similar path to me. I am keen to set up a local support group in The Shire, so if anyone is interested, please reach out to me via my Instagram page.”
