Meet this week’s local mum Cara who grew up in the Southern Highlands but now calls The Shire home (and totally gets why no one ever ventures over any bridges!)
Where and how long have you lived in the Sutherland Shire?
I live in Kirrawee and moved here almost 5 years ago, just before you needed to be a millionaire to buy a house. I was living in the Eastern Suburbs at the time and visiting friends in Gymea and fell in love with the Shire so we decided to find our own house. Our first day looking we bought our home at auction on a bit of a whim! (I have always been a bit of an impulse shopper ?)
How many children:
Two little girls – Sofia will be 3 in June and Audrey is 10 months (no there will not be a third or fourth as originally planned!)
Favourite park:
Depends on the day and how urgently I need a good coffee! But I love Shelly and Castelnau for sand cooking fun!
Favourite beach:
With kids – Silver Beach at Kurnell. So easy! We also love Wattamolla in the national park but a bit more of a mission. I love discovering new beaches and am still exploring all the areas of the Shire.
Favourite kid friendly cafe:
I am yet to try many of these as usually opt for a takeaway coffee but Blackfish at Como is great! Playground nearby and lots of boats to count. Plus it’s a fun walk over the railway bridge as something extra.
Favourite night place:
My couch??? I have been either trying to get pregnant, pregnant or had someone attached to my boob for the past 4 years so haven’t had much of an opportunity to venture out after dark #pleasesomeonetakemedancing!
Favourite Mothers Group location:
Usually just one of our houses – lots of toys, cups of tea and good conversation. I couldn’t survive motherhood without my mummy friends!
Favourite wet weather location:
Inflatable World! Love that place. It’s a good work out for mums at the same time.
Favourite local shop:
Toys to Treasure in Gymea. I always go in for something small like a hat and end up leaving with more than can fit in my pram basket.
Work or SAHM:
A little of both. I’m usually dabbling in something that generates a bit of income to fund my previously mentioned impulse shopping habit. I took a redundancy from my corporate job when pregnant with number one and have been a Tupperware consultant for the last couple of years. Check out Cara’s latest Tupperware Newsletter here.
Motherly advice:
Trust your motherly instincts and do what feels right for you and your little ones. After all, babies can’t read the rules books!
