Local Mum Feature – Brooke Clarke

by MUMS OF THE SHIRE
This week’s lovely local mumma is Brooke Clarke. The gorgeous first time mum shares her #mumlife with us and tells us how she has changed since becoming a mum.

Where and how long have you lived in the Sutherland Shire?

My family and I live in Cronulla. I was born and raised in the Shire, then moved for a few years when I went to school in the Eastern Suburbs. When it was time for me to move out, I moved back to Cronulla (about 5 years ago now).

Tell us about yourself and your family:

I am 25 years old; I have a baby girl who is nearly 10 months. I have been with my partner for four years. We met at Sharks League Club when he had a football presentation. I was there for my friend’s beauty pageant.

What does a typical day look like for you?

My family and I are up at 7am. My partner heads off to work then it’s just me and bub for the day. We like to play with her toys and watch Bananas in Pyjamas in the mornings. At lunch time we like to go to the park to get some sunshine and if it’s horrible weather we head up to Miranda.

Favourite park:

I definitely love going to the park down at Cronulla (the one in front of Northies) and Shelly Beach is lovely too!

Favourite thing to do with your bubs/kiddies:

I love getting outside, bub just loves crawling around everywhere and discovering everything around her.

Favourite kid friendly cafe:

My favourite would be Ruby Nik’s Kids at Miranda.

Favourite restaurant or favourite night-spot:

Favourite restaurant would have to be Kellys Bar and Grill at Westfield Miranda. But I haven’t been out since baby was born, so I don’t even know what it’s like anymore, haha. But I would say anywhere local in Cronulla like Northies is always fun!

Favourite Mothers Group location:

Unfortunately I never joined a mothers group. Wish I did though!

Favourite wet weather location:

Definitely would be Miranda Westfield.

What is your work situation?

Before I was a mum I was working for my dad’s clothing manufacturing company. He had brands such as Cooper St so I was very much into fashion!
I’m currently a stay at home mum looking for some work. I’m open to anything just to get the ball rolling. But in the future I am hoping to do a course for pathology collection, as I am very much into all things medical. I did go to uni for nursing but deferred with only one year left. I don’t know why I didn’t just stick to it. But I definitely would like to go back into something medical.

Motherly advice on how to stay sane:

Always make some time for yourself even if it’s just 20 mins. I always like to take a bubble bath and read a good book any chance I get.

Funny mum moment:

Walking around Miranda and I was wondering why everyone was staring and pointing at me. I thought everyone liked my outfit, but I realised I had some of my babies morning eggs stuck in my hair!

What is your guilty pleasure?

Anything sweet. I have a big sweet tooth!

What makes you lose your shit?

What doesn’t make me lose my shit? Hahahaha..

What’s something not many people know about you?

I am the biggest book worm. I read a new book once a week. I’m running out of books if anyone has any recommendations would loooove to hear.

Favourite local shop/online store or Instagram business:

Favourite local shop is definitely the The Best Little Book Shop in Town down in Cronulla. Or Berkelouw bookstore in Cronulla.

What’s the best product/service you can recommend since becoming a mum?

Gro Bags are perfect for winter. Any bloody toy that lights up and makes noise is a must.

How have you changed since becoming a mum?

Since becoming a mum I have become a lot more aware of everything around me. I am more patient and have taught myself to not stress as much as sometimes you can’t always control the situation.

What is the greatest challenge you have faced since becoming a mum?

That everyone seems to have an opinion on your parenting style. I MEAN EVERYONE!
