Local Mum Feature – Prudence

Family and fashion – local Mum, Prudence juggles two kids and a full-time career as owner of super-adorable online retailer Little Styles. Read about her #mumlife here: 

Where and how long have you lived in the Sutherland Shire and what do you love about it?

I was born and raised in the Sutherland Shire, but have spread the wings a little and went to school in Rose Bay and lived in Melbourne for a while. I currently live in Sylvania Waters.

Tell us about yourself and your family

I am a mother of two girls Poppy 3 ½ and Clementine 9 months, with an amazing husband, Tim. I have an inspirational extended family, starting with my Mum, Dad, and Grandmother (my grandfather who was amazing – has recently passed away). I have three brothers who are my rocks for all different reasons. I would love to have two more children, but my husband only wants one more!

What does a typical day look like for you?

I will get up early, go to the gym, check my emails, get my girls up and have cuddles in my bed. I try and do an activity with them before we go to work, walk park or playgroup.

They both have beds at my place of work, so luckily there’s no moving around for afternoon naps.
Then I power through work and get as much done as I can!

Then home time, dinner, bath, and bed. Then probably more work!

Favourite Park and Why?

Sylvania Waters park, it is close to our house, near the water and has a great slide that my bum can fit down.

Favourite thing to do with your bubs/kiddies and why?

My husband is from the country and Poppy loves to go to visit. She is a true animal lover (whisper).

Favourite kid friendly cafe and why:

Our local hang out is The Ugly Cook in Sylvania Waters, the owner Dimitri is amazing with kids and always accommodates for our big groups.

Favourite restaurant or favourite night-spot and why?

Going to my Mum and Dad’s for dinner, because you can’t go past a home-cooked dinner from your mum. And, the kids can be put to bed.

Favourite Mother’s group location

We attend Caringbah Baptist Church for playgroup, every week. We’ve been going for nearly two years and we absolutely love it. It’s a great way to meet other mums and be with your kids at the same time.

Work or SAHM

I have my own online business, Little Styles. I sell stylish clothes for babies from newborn to age 8. I would say I am a “stay-at-home working Mum”. I have tried to incorporate my girls to be able to come to work with me. It is tough, but they just think it is the norm now.

Motherly advice on how to stay sane

Find something that you love doing for yourself, for me, it is going to the gym.

Funny Mum moment

When my youngest was about five weeks old I was so tired and I had a bottle of EBM and I thought I was feeding the baby but I was actually looking at him next to me, my toddler had climbed onto my lap and I was accidentally feeding my 2-year-old without meaning to ???

What is your guilty pleasure

Instagram scrolling! And maybe a few pieces of chocolate.

What’s something not many people know about you?

I think everyone knows everything about me as I am an open book.

Favourite local shop/online store or Instagram business

Sass & Bide Westfield Miranda – I am a frequent visitor to this store… just don’ tell my husband…

What’s the best product/service you can recommend since becoming a mum? For baby/kids or you

I use Woolworths online shopping, this allows me to meal prep for the week and is ready for Poppy’s kindy.

How have you changed since becoming a Mum

I try not to stress about the small things. Unfortunately, I have little time for my friends, but I
feel this will get better once the girls are older.

What is the greatest challenge you have faced since becoming a mum?

When Poppy was just born she would not feed and everyone kept telling me there was nothing wrong with her, but she had terrible reflux. Whispers Cottage was my saviour.
