Meet this week’s beautiful local Mumma, Katie Keys. Hear all about Katie’s funny mum moments, her local hang out spots and all the amazing things she is doing with her career right now.
Where and how long have you lived in the Sutherland Shire?
Born and bred in the Shire. My family has lived in both Woolooware and Burraneer. My husband grew up in South Cronulla and somehow we didn’t meet until our early 20’s. I’m not sure to whose benefit that is?
How many children:
Lucas and I had our first son Hunter in March last year. He is now 14 months old. He is a chatter box and loves playing with his cousins Sophie and Grace who idolise him. Forgot toys, all he wants to play with is our mobile phones, car keys, TV remotes and balls… the sports kind for now.
Favourite park:
We love going to Castelnau Park. It brings back special memories for me as Hunter and I spent most Wednesday mornings there with our mothers group. Those girls really got us through those early days… with lots of laughter.
Favourite thing to do with bubs:
I love getting Hunter out of his cot each morning just as much as I love watching him sleep. My heart explodes equally at both.
Favourite kid friendly cafe:
Honestly we aren’t much of a cafe family. Neither Lucas, Hunter (surprising right) or I drink coffee. Mr Paisleys is a new cafe in North Caringbah with a great space for the kids out the back. We love walking to the coffee shop with our dog Charlie and ordering milkshakes.
Favourite restaurant/night spot:
You can’t beat a long lunch at Sealevel or a date night at Alphabet St.
Favourite Mother’s Group hangout:
Castelnau Park or the bottom park at the Camelia Gardens.
Favourite wet weather location:
A friend’s house or the pub with some other mums and bubs.
Work or SAHM:
Work. My professional background is Event Management. Whilst on maternity leave, I started Hunted Style which is an online fashion accessories business.
I’m working full time at cievents and off to Hawaii next week. This will be my first trip away from Hunter. If I watch a sad movie on the plane it’s all over. Lucas is currently a stay at home dad looking after Hunter and managing Hunted Style (Father of the year)!
Favorite local shop / online store:
I love shopping at Charbella and Seed for little people pressies. The Charbella ladies have a great eye for homewares and stock some gorgeous pieces. It is always dangerous stepping foot inside.
I love getting my flowers from Willow + Bear. Aimie is so talented and delivers fantastic customer service.
For fashion – I’m online! I’m all about connivance these days… time with my boys, family and friends is extra precious. I can online shop whenever it suits me with no restrictions… except for my credit card limit. I also love following fashionistas on instagram and checking out what they are wearing for inspiration. There is nothing worse when the person I am stalking on Instagram doesn’t tag where their clothes are from.
Funny mum moment:
I thought my son was older than he actually was….and even posted a celebration pic of Hunter, only to be corrected by a friend. I blame that on sleep deprivation.
Not me related, but Hunter had a very funny moment when he was a couple of months old. Whilst playing on his mat, he was having a bit of nappy free time and started doing a movement that looked very similar to the helicopter trick for minutes. It was hilarious.
Motherly advice on how to stay sane:
Don’t sweat the small stuff. Don’t always look and wait for what’s coming, enjoy the moment and the journey you are on.
I loved my mother’s group (friends for life) and so glad I joined a mums and bubs fitness group. Core Fitness offers an amazing mums and bubs program. There were some mornings where I just needed a purpose to get out of my pjs. This gave me a purpose and the chance to do something for me. Hunter also loved being outside.
