What would you like for Mother’s Day?
Sometimes even coming up with an answer when your partner and kids ask what you’d like for Mother’s Day can be tough. Coming up with ideas for the other mums and nans in your life is typically even harder.
Fortunately, in the Sutherland Shire, we’re flushed with businesses providing a huge range of great gift ideas. To simplify your search (and give you a quick link to flick straight to your partner) we’ve grouped all the best ideas from local businesses into handy categories below.
Something soft and stylish
Lately, it’s fair to say most people’s pyjamas and slippers have been given a real workout. Replace those old UGGs with plush slippers (and a robe, cardi or even activewear) from Wanted and Wild Boutique, splash out on a locally-designed pure linen dressing gown or a Rad Mum shirt from Banabae.
It’s been nice to have a break from it but the times of struggling to find something to wear again are already in our sights. Make it one less worry by checking out Kindred Souls, Maiden Avenue, Meet that Store or Raw Edge Boutique.
Something scented
What mum wouldn’t appreciate a beautiful bouquet of flowers? Cronulla Florist, Flowers on Port Hacking, The Flower Posse, Flora of Grace and The Bloom Boss are just a few fantastic florists you can choose something special from.
If you/your mum loves candles, you’re sorted. Every divine scent imaginable can be bought as a candle or diffuser from Label and Co, Hudson and Kingsley the label, Hutwoods, or Tychace candles. For lusciously scented body products check out Urban Rituelle, Bath Bombs n Beauty and Oyster Bay Organics.
Many of the beauty salons and spas that have had to shut their doors are still selling their incredible skincare ranges. For skincare gifts, get in touch with Beauty and the Bubz, Endota Spa, Seabeauty Medispa, Beauty and Balance or Clear Skin House.
Something soothing
The above spas can also offer gift vouchers for facials, massage and other treatments to be used when distancing measures are relaxed. You can bet most mums will want to relax in a quiet room by then too, so taking advantage of discounted gift vouchers now, like those from Waterlily Massage and Beauty is just good planning! Currently, they’re offering a 90-minute massage voucher for $80 or a 60-minute facial voucher for $60.
Something simple
For the mum that’s tricky to buy for, gift baskets are hard to go past, especially when it comes to getting something home-delivered. Beauty and the Bubz have put together gift baskets full of things mums enjoy like wine, cookies, candles, beauty treatment vouchers and more. Just Audrey is offering a Mother’s Day gift pack that includes a scarf, hand cream and lip balm. Emmazeberry’s gift hampers include dukkah, jam, essential oil and art, while Pago and Co has got you covered with premium and bespoke gift boxes.
Something savoury
You can’t physically take your mum out to lunch or dinner this year but I’d be almost willing to bet my own children that she doesn’t want to cook these meals for herself (or anyone else).
So if you don’t want to spend all day in the kitchen either, surprise her in the morning by telling her you’ll have a meal delivered for her.
Send her a menu or let it be her choice but there are plenty of delicious dining options offering contactless delivery.
For lunch or dinner we recommend Mike’s Grill, Giro Osteria, Jensens, Cove bar and Grill and Bella Cibo or any of these excellent restaurants that we listed recently in our guide to where to get the best food home-delivered in the Shire.
Or get her a platter she can graze on all day from The Grazing Cow, The Whole Fruit and Grocery Store or A Plated Affair.
Something sweet
If your mum has a sweet tooth, this should be a piece of cake (pun intended). Get a gorgeous mini-cake from Bec Bakes Cronulla, Sweet Flair, Baked Beauties Sydney or Picket Fence Cake Design. For cookie fans, you can’t go past the beautifully hand-made Kristie’s Kreations cookie boxes or the biscuit bouquets from Cakery by K-belle. And for donut and lolly lovers hit up My Sweet Box, Love Lolly or Sugar Me Up for personalised jars and boxes full of sweet treats.
Something sparkly
Everyone loves a bit of bling every now and then. You can find something beautiful from the range at Aaina & Co (who are having a huge sale and offering free shipping at the moment), Pontifex Jewellers or Precious Fusion. Or get a custom-made piece from Small Print
Something out of the ordinary
If you know a mum who’s been looking to take up a new challenge or hobby, here are a couple of great local suggestions. For the mum who saves her singing for the shower, Music for Wellbeing is offering online singing lessons until normal life resumes. For the mum who loves tea or wine, Noble Transfers and Tours are offering discounted deposits now for high tea and winery tours that will book out fast later in the year.
Something sporty
Gym closures and comfort snacking is not a great recipe for health and fitness. If there’s a mum in your life who wants to be in better shape, Kommando K8 Fitness is offering a free 21-day challenge to anyone who signs up for her (currently online) group or personal training classes. For tailored fitness programs suitable for pregnancy and specific post-natal concerns, Empowered Motherhood can help you out.
Something homely
We’ve been spending more time than ever in our homes lately, and have come to appreciate how much better we feel when they’re an inviting place to spend time, and a few useful pretty things don’t hurt either!
Sick of drinking from the same coffee mug (or wine glass) all the time? Cool 4 School has a range of keep cups, tumblers and smoothie cups to keep your drinks hot or cold when running around after the kids all day!
For the wall that’s too bare, or the broken vase that needs replacing, Mindful and Co, Living on Eton, White Sands Collections and Ur Place have got you covered.
Has being at home more than usual has made you realise you could really use some interior design help? Design In is your best bet! Mention Mums of the Shire ‘Mothers Day offer’ for 10% off selected services.
And if help around the home sounds more useful than just about anything right now, Mummymetime why not gift or get gifted a qualified, Covid-19 trained carer to take the kids off your hands for a short while, in your own home. They can keep the kids busy and safe so you or the special mum in your life can have some much-needed me-time.
Something she’ll treasure forever
Mums are in so few photos because they’re so often behind the camera and many nanas, in particular, would love to have photos of their children’s families all together. Getting a photo all together is easier than it sounds. Getting one with everyone’s eyes open, smiling and looking in one direction is damn near impossible.
There are some simply exquisite photographers within the bounds of the Shire. At the moment, Karen Fish photography is running a special Mother’s Day promotion- Buy a $149 Gift Certificate and receive a $50 Myer voucher. Marie Berroa, is also offering 40% off wall art for one week only.
Other great local photographers that you can book a session with or purchase a gift voucher from include Sasha Faint, Tiny Sparrow Photography, Ally Reid, Jennifer Ann, Karen Allamby, James White, Kylie Fisk and there are even more fabulous Sutherland-Shire based talented photographers listed in our directory.
There are plenty of other great businesses we could add to this list but we couldn’t name them all! We hope you and the special mums in your lives have a day that makes you feel as important and fabulous as you are. Happy Mother’s Day.
