It’s not all about over-priced flowers and sickly chocolates. Mother’s Day is a day for you to feel appreciated and special. We spoke to some hard-working local Mums to find out how they make the most of our day.
With two rambunctious boys, Kylie Petts of Wonderlight Photography always has her hands full. She loves to kick back on Mother’s Day with a long slow breakfast in a nice beach-side café surrounded by family and, of course, good coffee!

As an oncology nurse, lifestyle photographer and mum-of-two, photographer Cathy Murphy, knows all too well how quickly moments become memories. She said: “I am passionate about documenting our days, and love looking back over the images with my children. It’s like we get to relive our special moments all over again.”
Every Mother’s Day, Cathy and her tribe choose somewhere different for a picnic. She dresses up and hands the camera over to hubby. (With instructions). He then captures some candid moments with Mum and the kids. Then they play, eat all the ice cream and just snuggle. Cathy continued: “For me, Mother’s Day is for making memories. I’m not often out from behind the camera so the images are something I cherish. Here’s a shot from last year at Watson’s Bay.”

Fiona Cain runs Gran Nannies, a specialist babysitting service. Fiona said: “The best thing about Mother’s Day is having all the boys in my house look after me for the day! Making breakfast, tidying up, plus the thoughtful hand-made gifts and cards. I love it.’

Mum of two, Emma Dudman of Baby Sensory, hosts sensory and developmental activities in classes for parents and their babies. She said her perfect Mother’s Day would be to spend it with her own Mother and sister. She said: “We are all mums and we live hours apart so to be able to get together is a rare occurrence. When we do get together every now and again it is really special.” She continued: “ I am lucky to say I already spend lots of quality time with my husband and children, so as selfish as it may sound I would also love to go for a massage or have a sleep in or even just a shower on my own!”

With two kids and another on the way, Kimmy Smith from The Fit Mummy Project is after a really simple Mother’s Day. She said: “My perfect day would involve waking up in the morning and just relaxing with my girls and reading their homemade cards (hopefully my hubby would go out and get me a coffee and some banana bread!) and then just spending the day at the beach or park, relaxing (hopefully) enjoying some sunshine and seeing my own Mum and family. But, of course, I am also open to extravagant gifts and massages!” *winks*

Local sleep fairy and baby whisperer, Veena Parry, from Sleep Sweet Sleep is looking forward to spending some quality with her boys; husband Joel and her two-year-old Asher, and five-month-old Bodhi. For her the perfect Mother’s Day will be a day out in the boat on Port Hacking with some paddle boarding, swimming and picnicking. Finishing the day spending some time with all the other Mumma’s in her life. She wishes all the Mums the gift of sleep this Mother’s Day.

Local Mum duo, Kristy and Tennelle run Kindred Souls boutique in Yarrawarrah. This year is extra poignant for Tennelle; she has been spending every day with her mother who is unwell and so this Mother’s Day means so much more. Our thoughts and prayers are with her and her mother especially this Mother’s Day.
