Most people will tell you that there is no way to prepare for the birth of your child and what follows after. But that is only half the truth.
Arming yourself with information about the birth process and the transition into parenthood can be a great way to help you feel empowered about what lies ahead. Thankfully, there are courses out there to help you with this momentous milestone.
Transition into Parenthood is one of these courses. Run by trained doula and birth educator Julie Clarke, the course is designed to help pregnant couples who are looking for additional antenatal support and information, over and above what is offered at their hospital.
Held over one or two days, the course is intimate, with numbers kept to a minimum to encourage openness and interaction. Here, couples will learn how to deal with a range of different situations as they unfold during labour, self-management skills for birthing mums and how to communicate with each other effectively, amongst many other things. The second day of the course includes the practicalities of baby care and how to navigate those daunting first few weeks of parenthood.
Transition into Parenthood promises to provide couples with the facts, practical advice around active birth skills, and the encouragement to maintain a positive mindset during labour. It is especially recommended for those who wish to have as little medical intervention as possible and is suitable for all pregnant couples: first-timers, those who have birthed before but want a different experience, anxious couples, partners wanting more involvement and even grandparents who want to be more hands-on.
With a career spanning decades and over 150 births under her belt and counting, Julie is more than a safe pair of hands. Attending her course, you will quickly develop a strong and trusted relationship with her, and should you wish for extra support during or after the birth of your baby, she can become your birth and post-natal doula.
In addition to the popular Transition into Parenthood course, Julie offers a wide range of other services such as the Mindful Hypnobirth Course – psychological preparation for expectant couples, which covers breathing and self-relaxation and visualisation techniques. She also offers a Baby Care for Planned C-section course and a new Grandparents course.
