It’s normal for children to develop at different rates and we shouldn’t concern ourselves with when other people’s babies are meeting their milestones.
If, however, your child is not meeting their developmental goals due to a learning or physical disability, there is free support available to you that we want to ensure you know about!
Sylvanvale’s Mikarie Child Care Centre offers an exciting and inclusive playgroup for children of all abilities, aged 0–5.
Their supported playgroup will allow your child to interact with Early Childhood Educators and Therapists, and involve them in play-based activities.
“It is a place where kids thrive in a safe and dynamic play-based learning environment,” says Director Kelly Anderson.
How are the sessions structured?
Each playgroup begins with an Auslan Sign of the Week. This is a great way to start communicating with your children whether they are verbal or non-verbal.
Every week the playgroup will focus on a different theme. The theme acts as a springboard for a variety of stimulating and engaging play-based activities like singing, dancing, crafting and playing with toys, with a break for morning tea in between.
Depending on the rotating theme of the week, the children will be able to create their own craft and engage in everchanging play-based activities.
The sessions often begin with the reading of a story, and then bring the story to life through creative craft techniques the kids can get involved in.
As your child (or children) interacts with the Early Childhood Educators and Therapists, they’ll also be able to guide your child during play and assist you with helpful techniques and resources to do the same.
The playgroup provides an excellent opportunity for you and your children to meet other families and have a tonne of fun in an environment where they’re made to feel welcome and comfortable.
Where is the playgroup held?
You can attend the playground face to face at Mikarie Child Care Centre in Kirrawee or online.
Mikarie is an award-winning Child Care Centre in Kirrawee, and Sydney’s only all-inclusive childcare. They follow strict COVID-19 entry and visitor protocols, which currently include temperature checks upon entry (for both parents and children).
The purpose-built room within the Centre is equipped with learning resources and toys specially designed to stimulate and educate.
If you’d prefer not to visit their physical location, you can access the playgroup online via Zoom.
When is the playgroup run?
The supported playgroup runs every Friday from 10am until 12pm. Mikarie Child Care Centre understands that babies don’t always stick to a schedule so if you’re likely to arrive late or need to leave early they simply ask that you let them know.
How much does the playgroup cost?
There is no membership or other fees to join. Simply contribute a gold donation when you visit.
What do I need to bring?
Just your gold coin donation, a packed morning tea, and a sense of adventure!
What size is the playgroup?
The current COVID-safe capacity is 15 people (including parents and children) so it is important that you RSVP.
Can I bring my other children?
Siblings of all abilities are encouraged to come along.
Is there parking?
Secure parking is available outside Mikarie Child Care Centre. Street parking is also available.
