Is there any better part of lockdown than being able to eat (and drink cocktails) from the best local restaurants in your Oodie and Uggs while you devour episode after episode of distracting TV? We doubt it.
There is an almost endless list of terrific restaurants in the Sutherland Shire that would love your business right now. Supporting small businesses is the perfect guilt-free excuse to let yourself order extravagantly from the Shire’s best restaurants.
You’ll find every cuisine imaginable, with many serving specialty take-home cocktails too. If you’re in a position to support these restaurants, we know you won’t regret it!
Pelligrinis
Offering a dinner menu of Italian food so exquisite and extensive that you may want to start perusing it at breakfast time, Pelligrinis has got you covered. It includes a kids menu featuring pizza, pasta, schnitzel, fish and burgers sure to keep the little ones happy too. Keep an eye out on their Instagram page for advertised specials like $15 pizzas and pastas.
Next Door
Head Chef Luke Arnull has designed a divine “heat and eat” menu for two that you can order to pick up for lunch or dinner. Sesame falafel, smoked lamb and Messina dark chocolate with a vanilla halva brownie are just some of the highlights of the eight-course menu, which is $100 for two people.
Baba Ghanouj
Lebanese food doesn’t get more traditional or tasty than at Baba Ghanouj. So authentic are they that you can even request any traditional Lebanese dish that is not on their menu! You can order now for takeaway, or get it delivered via Uber Eats or Menulog.
Salt Meats Cheese
In addition to their usual delicious menu full of fine Italian food, which is all available for takeaway now, keep your eyes out on the Salt Meats Cheese Instagram page. They regularly post special offers like $10 take-home Margaritas and discounted pizzas that you won’t want to miss.
Jensen’s
The clever team at Jensen’s were ready to go with their latest lockdown menu within hours of restrictions being announced. They have an extensive takeaway menu so you can recreate the date night experience at home or try their new heat and eat menu boxes. Top picks include prawn croquettes, pork belly and apple and cinnamon empanadas. And you can wash those down with some of their bottled cocktails.
Alphabet Street
During the last lockdown, only those close to Cronulla were able to access the top of the line Thai fare from Alphabet St, now those in Sutherland and surrounding suburbs can get amongst it too. They’re offering a full menu including their signature apple martinis, chilli coconut margaritas and salted caramel espresso martinis, but I’ll have a Mr Snickers dessert thanks!
Kickin’Inn
Kickin’Inn had not long been open in Kirrawee before they were forced to switch to takeaway. If you ask me, home is an ideal place to eat their big mixed seafood bags of golden king crab, Moreton bay bugs, oysters, mussels and even lobster- which are normally eaten with gloves and bibs! Indulge while they’re still offering 25% off!
Union Place Hotel
Our favourite Jannali joint has got pizzas, pastas and salads on offer for takeaway, in addition to a dreamy range of $12 cocktails. Will you get a mojito, mango daiquiri or passionfruit caprioska? Free delivery is on offer for residents of Jannali, Bonnet Bay, Como, Oyster Bay, Kareela, Sutherland, Kirrawee and Woronora.
Zimzala
Zimzala’s takeaway meal deals have been some of the best we’ve seen. So far they’ve offered paella with sangria (and chicken, chips and juice for the kids); seafood chowder with wine; burger combos with mojitos; fish and chips with Coronas; and roast pork rolls with Peronis. You can also get your hands on family pies to heat and eat plus coffee, beverages, everyday breaky items, beef sausage rolls, muffins and more. Keep your eyes on their Instagram page for up to date deals.
Rock Salt
Make your next night in a special one with a two or three-course dinner ($45/$55 respectively) from Rock Salt. Or pick and choose from their full takeaway menu to design your own dinner. Will you pick salt and pepper lamb cutlets, king prawn spaghetti, duck breast, lamb shoulder…? The hardest part will be deciding! Top it off with a dessert tasting plate for two or one of their cocktail jars.
Caruso’s
Family struggling to settle on where to order dinner? Caruso’s Italian restaurant is pulling out all the stops to make sure there is something for everyone on their menu. They’re offering burgers, crepes, waffles, pizzas, pastas, loaded schnitzels, nachos and even have a heap of vegan options on the menu. Let everyone choose their own meal, or make things easy by grabbing one of their Family Meal Deals. Caruso’s crisis kitchen is also operating again. It serves large family meals that you can heat when you’re ready. This small local business would love your support.
There are of course many other worthy restaurants in the Sutherland Shire serving up mouth-watering meals and we hope you will support as many as you’re able to during this difficult time for many in the hospitality industry.
