At Mums of the Shire, we are always happy to support a good cause, particularly when it directly helps local women, children and families through some of the most difficult periods of their lives.
For 38 years, The Family Co. has been doing exactly that. The not-for-profit organisation provides practical, emotional and ongoing support to women, children, young people and families across the Sutherland Shire and Southern Sydney.
Its work is broad because the challenges families face rarely fit neatly into one category. The Family Co. provides domestic and family violence support, court advocacy, counselling, youth programs, Aboriginal services, family support, community education and early intervention programs.
More than 13,675 people access its programs each year, with the organisation supporting families from prevention and early intervention through to crisis assistance and recovery.
This September, The Family Co. is inviting the community to get behind that work at its inaugural Better Futures Ball.
A Night Out With a Meaningful Purpose
Held on Saturday 5 September 2026, the Better Futures Ball will be an opportunity to enjoy a memorable night out while helping fund services for families within the local community.
The formal and black tie gala will include a three course seated dinner, drinks, live entertainment, auctions, raffles and the opportunity to connect with local community members and business leaders.
The Family Co. ambassador and respected journalist Mike Munro AM will deliver the keynote address, sharing his personal story and connection to the organisation’s work.
The evening will be hosted by broadcaster, author and gender equality advocate Tracey Spicer AM, with live entertainment from Sydney band Planet Groove. Their set will cover everything from disco and soul to R&B, 80s favourites and current hits, so there should be plenty of reason to stay on the dance floor once the formalities are over.
Guests will also be able to take part in live and silent auctions and raffles throughout the evening.
Helping Families Move Forward
Every ticket purchased will help The Family Co. continue supporting families experiencing hardship, violence, instability or crisis.
The funds raised can contribute to counselling and support services, as well as practical assistance such as safe phones, school uniforms, removalist costs and help establishing a new home.
The organisation is also increasingly focused on prevention, working to stop harm before it begins and create safer futures for children and families.
The Family Co.’s services deliver a social return of $2.24 for every dollar invested, showing the wider community impact that early support, practical assistance and long-term care can provide.
