The Shire Australia Day celebration is a HUGE event – running across the whole weekend and with tons of things for the entire family to enjoy. It’s the nation’s longest-running Australia Day event, now celebrating its 23rd year of entertaining Shire families.
The two-day festival of live music and entertainment will begin on Sunday 26 January at two different sites: Cronulla Beach and Blaxland Oval, Menai.
On Monday 27 January the celebrations will conclude with the more relaxed musical Vibes Program at Cronulla Beach only.
The Menai event is more geared towards younger families. There will be a circus, kids entertainment and plenty to do. With live music, food, activities for kids and heaps of chilled out fun to be had, you are encouraged to bring a picnic and as many family members and friends as you can gather.
The Cronulla event will conclude with the usual fireworks show (provided weather conditions are okay and the emergency services teams give approval on the night.) Due to the close proximity to bushland, however, there won’t be a fireworks display at the Menai event this year.
Both event sites are alcohol-free zones.
Public transport is your best bet, with over 35,000 people expected to attend the Cronulla events.
The Kurranulla Aboriginal Corporation will be running a bucket collection at Cronulla, with all funds going to help rural fire services.
