This is one of those playgrounds that you probably wouldn’t have gone to unless you live nearby, but if you’ve got kids under twelve it’s definitely not a bad spot to spend an hour or two.
On-street parking’s not a problem. From the road, it doesn’t look like much because the area is so flush with trees, but the kids got a lot more excited once we were up close. There’s, in fact, plenty there (though no toilets or bin, surprisingly).
And though it would’ve been fabulous to see a BBQ area and some tables installed, it looks like you’ll have to pack your lunch or pick it up on the way from the Stag and Fawn or Grays Point Takeaway.
The main, extra-large play gym is set on bark and geared mostly towards school-aged kids. It features climbing nets and frames, ladders, monkey bars and a pretty fast mid-sized slide.
The path that circles it is suitable for scooters but anyone tearing around it should be aware that little kids will be walking across it to get to the other areas of the playground.
Scattered around the playground are three role-playing prompts- a Police Station, Fire Station and Hospital, which we had great fun with. You can also make your own fun by “exploring” the reserve, which is full of large rocks for jumping across and it’s a great spot for hide and seek too.
The original swings (one baby, one platform) have been kept but are in good condition and adjacent to them are some wooden logs for jumping on and walking across.
There’s also plenty of other strategically placed large pieces of sandstone and colourful stools/jumping blocks for the kids to play on.
And it all overlooks the beautiful bay!
