There is always a girls trip sitting somewhere in the group chat. Dates are thrown around, everyone says they are keen, and then six months later you are still sending each other accommodation reels.

Alhana from Mums of the Shire recently headed to the Hunter Valley with nine friends for a girls weekend at The Station, staying in its largest accommodation, The George. At around two and a half hours from the Sutherland Shire, it is far enough to feel like a proper getaway without losing half the weekend to the drive.
A Hunter Valley Stay With Serious Wow Factor
Set across 25 private acres in Pokolbin, The Station is home to five beautifully restored vintage train carriage stays, with options for couples, families and larger groups. It is also only a short drive from Pokolbin Village and close to many of the Hunter Valley’s wineries and dining spots.
We stayed in The George, which sleeps up to 10 people across two renovated vintage train carriage., connected by a large pergola and outdoor courtyard. One carriage holds the open-plan kitchen, dining and living areas, while the other contains five bedrooms, two bathrooms and an additional powder room.
That layout was one of the biggest wins for our group. Anyone wanting an early night could head to bed without being kept awake by the people still talking over another bottle of wine. It also worked in reverse for the World Cup fans who were awake at a fairly unreasonable hour.
It was practical enough to comfortably accommodate 10 women, but still had the wow factor you want from a weekend away. Driving through the property and seeing the restored carriages waiting at the top felt genuinely special. The rooms were beautifully styled, the train details gave the property plenty of character and the entire place tied together perfectly.
There were even some very cute farm animals on the property, which added to the whole country escape feel.
Our Hunter Valley Girls Weekend Itinerary
We arrived on Friday afternoon and stocked the fridge with cheese, dips and everything needed for a generous charcuterie board.
That evening, we hired a local van company to pick us up and take us to Harrigan’s Hunter Valley for dinner, drinks and dancing. Hiring transport made the night easy, with no one needing to drive or work out how to get everyone home.
When we returned to The George, we used the little trolley provided to collect firewood from around the property, lit the fire pit and finished the evening with wine around the fire.
Saturday morning started with breakfast at the house before Wine Party Tours collected us at around 10am. We spent the day visiting a mix of local wineries, distilleries and cheese shops, with plenty of tastings and a few bottles coming home with us.
After returning with several new bottles, we settled back into the outdoor entertaining area for another night of food, wine and catching up. This was when the accommodation really came into its own. There was no pressure to rush back out because the pergola, courtyard and fire pit already gave us the perfect place to spend the evening.
Why The Station Works So Well for a Girls Trip
The George gave us everything we needed in one place. There was enough room for 10 people to stay comfortably, a proper kitchen for breakfasts and grazing boards, and an outdoor area that quickly became our go-to spot each evening.
The separate living and sleeping carriages were also a clever touch. Those who wanted to keep the night going could stay up without disturbing anyone heading to bed, while the early risers had somewhere to make coffee without waking the entire group.
It felt special without being impractical, and we had plenty of space to enjoy the accommodation rather than treating it as somewhere to simply sleep between plans.
The George was ideal for our group of 10, but The Station also has smaller train carriage options for couples and groups of different sizes. It would work just as well for a romantic weekend away, a birthday trip or a smaller catch-up with friends.
